This is a a walk of three parts, firstly a descent into Reddish Vale with a walk through the Vale beyond the railway viaduct and into the woods along a generally Easterly direction. After briefly passing through part of an industrial estate, the 16th Century moated Arden Hall is passed then after crossing the main road and the river Tame the walk continues alongside the river through Hulmes wood and beyond at Ivy cottages and eventually reaches the crossing of the river at Gibralter bridge. After crossing the river the track rises to shortly join the Peak Forrest canal where you turn right for the final long section of the walk to Marple. Interesting features of this final section are the Woodley tunnel complete with towpath, the Hyde Farm tunnel, with the horse roving path over the top of the tunnel, then comes the Marple aqueduct crossing 100ft above the river Goyt followed by the Marple flight of 13 locks to the conclusion of the walk.
