The hike to Leavitt Peak is just over 5 miles one way. The trail starts out by going the long way around a large cirque, gaining about 1,000 feet to an unnamed pass. Then it is a long walk along the side of a ridge before undulating up and down, going around the back of the mountain, following the PCT. Once you get to the backside of the mountain, you leave the PCT and climb steeply up the east ridge to the summit. The views from the summit are nice, especially to the south. There are also a lot of cool rocks along the way...we collected a few with turquoise crystals growing on them. We also found a few small geodes. Note - There is a very steep "climber's trail" one can use to bypass the long hike around the cirque, but it is very loose and steep...better used for descending. We took it on the way back.
