Lots of shade and water. And great views of the rather steep canyon.
Follow the signs to Tuzigoot.
On the Tuzigoot rd, past the bridge, after 0.4 mile, turn left on Sycamore cyn rd.
Follow this road that starts as an asphalt road and turns into a dirt road, for 9.9 mile.
The road starts very good, but gets more rough along the way.
Follow the main road. At a fork, close to the end, take FR 131 left, signed "Sycamore"
There were regular cars at the parking, so it's possible to get here.
A the parking take the Parsons trail down into the Sycamore canyon.
Follow the trail all the way to the spring. That's where the water ends.
Closer to the end, the trail is sometimes hard to follow and we lost it for a while on our way in. On the way back the trail was easier to follow.
So make sure the cross at point "X Creek R".
This is a more difficult crossing, thats why we stayed on the left bank on our way in.
Staying left is not too much of a problem, the crossing is slightly easier, but you have to make your way over some small boulders and bushes.
Parts of the trail are washed away, but most of the trail is in good condition.
When in doubt at a crossing, look for the large rock wire cairns, they always indicate a crossing.
One of the ledges is more dangerous to hike on. There is a better, safer way just below it.
Look out for on old mine at mile 2.7.
Watch out for rattlesnakes, I almost stumbled upon one, close to the spring.
They make a more bee like noise. The noise is quite high in pitch, so not everyone may be able to hear it, at full strength.
Hiking time: 4 Hour, 15 Minutes.
Start early in weekends.
The main stream of picnic hikers starts around noon.
