Day 1 : Chefchaouen to Afaska (18km)
(my GPS jumped to Dardara... But it was only 18km and no jump of course)
We walked 8 hours from 10:30am until 6:30pm.
We were very slow, made a 30 min stop at the white mosque of Chefchaouen, an other 30min stop for picnic and other stops along the way.
The first part of the hike is easy. The track goes along villages with a view on the large valley and villages. (possibility to ask villagers to refill the bottles of water) . Then the track goes up, a bit steep, for 1 hour. Then it takes 1-2 hours to go down through the pine forest with a view of the cliff...beautiful! The last part is ther most stunning. Then we spent the night in Afaska guesthouse (300 dirhams/pers negociatable for tea, dinner, bed, hot shower and breakfast). There is only 1 guesthouse in Afeska (0666212188)
Day 2: Afaska to Akchour (13km)
We walked 7 hours (from 9am to 4pm) downhill....stunning landscapes!
We wanted to make it to Achkour waterfall but it was too late.
Day 3 : Akchour-Akchour waterfall-Akchour-Chefchaouen (33km)
In the morning we walked 4hours from our guesthouse in Achkour to the waterfall and back : nice path along the river and in the forest with many cafes.
In the afternoon we walked 6 hours from Achkour to chefchaouen on the paved road (no dirt road as I thought). So 10 hours walk in total.
If I had to do it again, I would take more time at the waterfall and then hitchhike or take a taxi (25dirhams) from Achkour to Chefchaouen.
Beautiful 3 days hike! (63km)
We just had 1 liter of water each... And we refilled our bottle on the way in the river or asking villagers. It is necessary to have your own pic-nic for the lunch of the first day. But for day 2 and 3, you'll find many restaurants and little shops in Akchour.
Akchour is very crowded in the weekend, so it is better to go there during the week if you prefer quietness. The water was very cold in April so we did not swim, just few kids were in the water.
Also the area is well-known for its cannabis fields but we did not see any... Apparently April is not the good time of the year for it.
(good light for pictures in the morning only)
300 dirhams per person (negotiable) for dinner+bed+breakfast
Old bridge and clear water river
Possibility to walk down the gorge
100 dirhams per room for 2 pers
And little grocery store in front
